Even in the weeks leading up to Christmas day the Oxford music scene is vibrant, active and productive. It's as if these musos never sleep.
A couple of great events - Oxford's Winter Warmer festival at the Wheatsheaf, and Witney's Winter Festival at Fat Lil's - provided a showcase for some of the best in Oxford music recently, and both were very successful and well-attended.
Dead Jerichos (www.myspace.com/deadjerichos), who create an edgy mix of Foals and The Jam, have just released a new EP, Please Yourself, with two new tracks and two remixes.
Oxford rapper and producer Half Decent (www.halfdecentmusic.com), fresh from support slots to big names like Doom and Chipmunk, has put together a free downloadable mixtape to showcase his work.
Finally, MusicInOxford.co.uk is currently celebrating the local metal scene with a comprehensive overview of Oxford rock and metal. It's yet another example of how the local music scene is extraordinarily strong right now, with huge numbers of musicians and fans contributing to it. Roll on 2012, which will see even more creativity and energy in Oxford music.
