THREE female stand-up comedians, each with their own unique style of observational humour, are coming to Oxford’s Glee Club as part of their Stand Out tour.
Up-and-comedian Suzi Ruffell will be performing on the same bill as Zoe Lyons and Jen Brister at the Park End Street venue on November 24. Suzi has been performing at venues across the country after discovering her love of comedy in 2008 while training to be an actress.
The 26-year-old comedian said: “I always wanted to play the funny role and realized that I needed to do comedy. I started as an actor doing some improvisation at Soho Theatre in London and someone suggested I had a go at comedy and I loved it. I left acting and realized doing stand up is all I wanted to do.”
Suzi has made it to the final of both The Laughing Boy New Act of The Year, Latitude New Act of The Year and was nominated for Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2011. Her comedy is inspired by tales of social ineptitude, overbearing parents and stories of desperately trying to fit in.
She said: “Quite a lot of my humour is about my family and growing up. I do a lot of storytelling, I stretch the truth a bit . I really enjoy improvising and having lots of banter with the audience. I love playing new venues and talking to new people.”
Suzi’s comedy heroes include BAFTA award-winning comedian Victoria Wood, Alan Carr and 8 Out of 10 Cats comedian Sean Locke. Acoustic singer Amity will be performing between acts.
