Oxford Harlequins were beaten 24-8 at home by Redingensians on Saturday and remain third-bottom of National League 3 South West.
Quins gave debuts to new signings Matt Smith at fly half and Frank Mayfield at full back as they looked to spring a surprise against their promotion-chasing hosts. But Rams number eight Robbie Stapley opened the scoring with his 15th try of the season in the first half. The Sonning men broke away on 18 minutes and forced a five-metre scrum, from which Stapley dived over.
The conversion was missed, however, and a penalty from debutant Smith sent Oxford in at the break 5-3 down in a game of few chances. The hosts took the lead soon after the restart when they counter attacked swiftly and Mayfield crossed for a maiden try, which Smith could not convert.
Although Quins' Tongan World Cup flanker Sione Viamounga was proving a threat, the Rams' pack was slowly turning the tide in their favour. Shaun Brown crossed from another scrum close to the Quins try line to touch down and notch his 100th point of the season.
Despite losing hooker Chris Rowland to the sin bin the visitors went further ahead when Brown's looping pass found winger Dom Gosling and he side-stepped his way home, with Will Clarke adding the extras from the touchline. The game was up for Quins when Johnny Tevita saw yellow late on, and in injury time Stapley finished off a rolling maul with his second try of the afternoon to seal a bonus point win for the Rams.
