First half secures Wallingford win over Slough

An excellent first half display helped Wallingford to a 36-22 victory over Slough on Saturday.

The first try was a lineout move that saw Ian Jeffreys take a crash ball off Tom Rowberry before bouncing off three defenders and feeding Tom Hill to score for the home side.  Ralph Smith missed the conversion but the beat to tackles to score a try of his own.  Slough pulled five points back with a simple catch and drive but the rest of the half belonged to Wallingford.

Smith darted over after a neat offload from scrum half Derek Viljoen, before Tom Wemyss finished off a flowing move out wide, sparked by a robust run from Angus Brettell. Smith converted both, and then Shaun Bailey took a lineout and popped it up to Viljoen and the ball was moved to Glenn Dearlove who drew his man before returning the ball to Brettell on the loop to score the try of the half and make it 33-5.

In the second half Slough fought back aided by the wind to score three tries as Tom Rowberry was sin binned but the win was never in doubt.
