Oxford Harlequins beaten 31-13 by Old Patesians

Oxford Harlequins were well beaten by visitors Old Patesians on Saturday, going down 31-13 in North Hinksey.

Quins continue to struggle near the foot of National League 3 South West, with only two wins from their first eight games.  Old Pats missed an early penalty but eventually took the lead on 16 minutes with a penalty after Quins collapsed a scrum.

And they extended their lead on 31 minutes with a second penalty, a reward for dominating territorially.  And they went further ahead before the break after forcing Oxford into mistakes in their own 22 to score an unconverted try, taking an 11-0 advantage into the interval.

After the restart a smartly taken drop goal from fly half Alex Stevenson on 46 minutes brought Quins back into the game.  But the visitors continued to enjoy the best of possession and territory and quickly touched down following an overlap on the right flank to make it 16-3.

Another Old Pats penalty followed, before the ball was spun wide on the left from a tap penalty 40 yards out for a second try for the visitors out wide.  This was converted from the touchline to give Old Pats a commanding 26-3 lead.

More woe followed for Oxford when Jordan Brodley came onto the field as a replacement only to being yellow carded a minute later.  While he was off the field Old Pats added a third unconverted try to put the result beyond doubt.

To their credit the Quins did not give up, scoring two unconvered tries of their own in the final 10 minutes through second row Will Clayton and right winger Harry Burn.
