James Constable remains an Oxford United player after declining the opportunity to speak to arch-rivals Swindon Town about a big-money transfer, while the club has also reportedly turned down a bid from high-flying Crawley Town.
In a statement, Oxford United said further discussions with the talismanic striker yesterday had not progressed, and Constable was back in training with the squad for tomorrow's game against Hereford United. The 27-year-old, who was the subject of Luton and Bournemouth earlier this season, leads the scoring charts for United with nine goals this term so far.
Oxford had refused one offer from Paulo Di Canio's Swindon, but accepted a second bid. However, Constable lated wrote on Twitter: "This has been one of the toughest days I have had in my career, never wanted to leave the football club, it means everything to me! #OUFC."
Crawley Town boss Steve Evans also confirmed his club had been in for Constable, but their offer had been rebuffed. Third-placed Crawley's prolific striker Tyrone Barnett has reportedly been the subject of a bid from Championship side Blackpool, and Evans could be in the market for a potential replacement.
