Oxford United have signed teenage central defender Leigh Franks on loan from Huddersfield Town until January.
The 19-year-old has impressed U's boss Chris Wilder during pre-season, and said: "I'm delighted to have been given the chance to come here. From day one the lads have made me feel welcome and helped me settle in and there's a fantastic spirit about the place.
"Hopefully I can get a bit of experience under my belt. I haven't been getting in the team at Huddersfield and they have signed a few centre halves over the summer so this is the ideal chance to get out and try to play a few games. Centre half is a difficult place for a young player to get a chance but I have come here looking for the opportunity to show what I can do. Andy Melville is a massive help and has been doing extra stuff after training with us which can only help my all round game.
"As a player you've got to strive to improve, whether you're on trial or not. There is always pressure to perform in every game. You are judged on your last match no matter what and I want to approach things positively. You have to aim as high as you can and although I know it's not going to be easy holding down a place I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead."
Originally from Scarborough, Leigh was spotted playing junior football for Bridlington and taken on at Huddersfield as a youngster. The 6ft 1in defender has a year left on his contract with the Terriers.
