Melissa Hawtin leads home county runners in Brighton

ATHLETICS: Melissa Hawtin finished an impressive eighth at the South of England Cross Country Championships in Brighton on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Oxford City AC athlete crossed the line in 24mins 2secs, around two minutes behind overall Under 20 title winner Emelia Gorecka, of Aldershot, Farnham & District.

Radley athlete Gemma Bridge was 12th over the same distance, while Hawtin siblings Lauren and Beth finished 33rd in the Under 17 womens race and 25 in the Under 15 girls race respectively.

Woodstock Harriers runner Steve Naylor finished 12th in the senior men's race running for his first choice club Beford & County, behind overall winner Ben Tickner.

And Radley AC runner Christian Von Eitzen crossed the line 15th in the Under 15 boys race.
