Oxford put six goals past Wycombe to take top spot

HOCKEY: Oxford HC hammered Wycombe 2nds 6-1 on Saturday to take top spot in MBBO Regional 1.

Oxford took the lead early after a flowing team move was finished off by a tap in from Mark Carpenter. Wycombe came into the game strongly after that, a lack of defensive discipline from the home side allowing a number of overloads and breaks into the Oxford D.

The Wycombe advances were kept at bay, despite Oxford losing Kit Cutter to a yellow halfway through the half. Oxford added two further goals later in the half, to make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half started the same as the first, Oxford scoring again to stretch their advantage to 4-0. Wycombe did pull a goal back but Oxford countered to rack up an impressive win, with a second for Carpenter, a brace for Dan Bleach and strikes from Rich Beer and Andy Wynd.

Oxford HC 2nds were beaten 3-1 at home by Aylesbury 1sts in MBBO Regional 2, despite going ahead through Andy Small.  And Oxford HC 3rds fared no better, also beaten on their own turf 7-4 by Bracknell 1sts.

In a high-scoring game Oxford found the net through Nick Best, Adam Jurisich, Huw Tasker and Tom Harris but were outscored by the visitors despite several excellent saves from 'keeper Tom Chapel.
