ATHLETICS: Hannah England was second over 1,500m on her return to competitive action at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow on Saturday.
The 24-year-old Oxford City AC athlete clocked 4mins 25.11secs to finish behind Germany's Denise Krebs, who crossed the line first in a slow race in a time of 4mins 25.09secs. Representing Great Britain on the track for the first time since returning from an altitude training spell in Kenya, England found herself in the middle of the pack until the halfway point and then pushed towards the front.
England was pipped on the line by Krebs, but said: “Today was a lot of fun. I had a race plan and I didn’t intend to go that early but I had to because that’s how the race was going and I was pleased with how I responded to what the other girls were doing. Denise ran a great race and really put herself out at the front so she was always in the mix and congratulations to her.”
The World Championship silver medallist will compete over 3,000m at the Aviva UK Indoor Trials on February 11 and 12, and then returns to 1,500m at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 18.
