Oxford Hawks put six past Woking

HOCKEY: Oxford Hawks continued their fine pre-season form with a 6-2 win over Woking at Banbury Road North on Saturday.

The Hawks started strongly, and it took only five minutes for Ted Bennet to put the home side in the lead.  Five minutes later Joe Brownhill met a Dave Cresswell cross and deflected the ball in from close range.

Bennett added his second from a narrow angle, smashing the ball high into the net over the grounded 'keeper.  With ten minutes to the break Dom Roche picked the ball up just inside his own half on the left, crossed the halfway line, set a diagonal course to the right hand side of the D and scored at the far post to give Oxford a 4-0 lead at the interval.

Woking refused to lay down and came back in the second half pressing high.  A speculative aerial was not dealt with by the Hawks defence, and Woking pulled a goal back.  Hawks struggled to play their free flowing hockey, but went further ahead after Kieran Roche reverse flicked in following a goalmouth scramble.

Roche was then sin binned for not retreating five metres from a Woking free hit and Woking used their man advantage to score again.  But with five minutes left on the clock Sam Chilvers won a short corner and Dave Cresswell dispatched it home to round off a good win.
