Oxford City Stars bring in new head coach

Sport-Ox-city-stars-logoICE HOCKEY: The new owners of Oxford City Stars have moved to appoint a new first team coach after a terrible first half of the season.

Oxford Stars Limited directors Elaine Sutcliffe and John Harrison have installed former Stars player Simon Anderson in the role, replacing player-coach Ken Forshee.  Stars have had a poor start to their 2011/12 campaign, winning just twice to find themselves ninth and out of the play-off places in ENL1 South.

Oxford are on a 12-game winless streak, which includes 10 losses and two draws, since their last win over Bracknell Hornets on October 29.  In their last outing the Stars were beaten 10-3 at Oxpens Road by the Chelmsford Chieftains.

Sutcliffe and Harrison, who took over the Stars at the start of the season, said the move was made to revitalise the team's performances on the ice.

"Simon was recommended to us and it is clear that he is passionate about hockey at Oxford," they said in a statement. "He has a long successful coaching history and brings a lot of experience, Simon is determined to see the team reach the play-offs."

Anderson is expected to speak to each member of the squad before they return from their Christmas break for training on January 4.
