Hawks fail to sparkle against Hampstead

LADIES HOCKEY: Oxford Hawks Ladies took on Hampstead and Westminster Ladies and were disappointed to come away with a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.

The Hawks couldn’t find the ball pace and power they showed in their previous outing against Reading, and reacted slowly to a short corner after 20 minutes for the only goal of the game.

In the second half the Hawks lifted their game, with a good defensive performance from Claire Collis and Flick Hughes as the team looked to attack.  A penalty...

Hawks held by local rivals Henley

HOCKEY: Oxford Hawks drew 2-2 with local rivals Henley in a result that did no favours for either team’s hopes of breaking away from the relegation battle.

The Hawks started fairly well, with Tom Coppin in the middle of the pitch dominating and Nick Lamb pushing on from defence.

But first Dean Elliott and then Andrew Shurmer and a high score from Paul Gore meant Oxford...

Thunder are at the lower end of the league, battling with Haringey for the third-from-bottom spot. Oxford should win, but traditionally Thunder play well against the Stars on the big ice pad in Milton Keynes. Both teams will be keen to earn at least a point from the game, so it should be competitive.

Oxford City Stars hammer Haringey in nine goal thriller

ICE HOCKEY: Oxford City Stars faced the Haringey Greyhounds away at Alexandra Palace on Sunday and continued their recent good form to run out comfortable 9-0 winners.

Oxford were missing Nick Eden and Mike Lucas, but were otherwise at full strength. Despite being at home, the Greyhounds lacked quality and numbers.  The situation worsened for the home team about three quarters of the way through the first period, when netminder James Tipple was forced to retire from the game with a leg...
