Stars dispatch Milton Keynes Thunder in style

ICE HOCKEY: From an Oxford point of view, there was nothing much on the game between the Stars and the Milton Keynes Thunder on Sunday. Milton Keynes are vying with the Haringey Greyhounds for the third-from-bottom ‘safe’ finishing position and are presumably keen to secure any points to help them in their quest, so it was a little surprising that arrived with a short bench to face Oxford.

Oxford archer Simpson strikes gold

ARCHERY: Oxford archer Nichola Simpson has won gold for England at the Commonwealth Games test tournament in Delhi.

Hawks fail to sparkle against Hampstead

LADIES HOCKEY: Oxford Hawks Ladies took on Hampstead and Westminster Ladies and were disappointed to come away with a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.

The Hawks started fairly well, with Tom Coppin in the middle of the pitch dominating and Nick Lamb pushing on from defence.

However, a slight lapse in defence with players watching the ball saw Henley grab the first goal of the game, sweeping in at the far post. The Hawks soon levelled, Sam Chilvers on hand to coolly lift the ball...

High-scoring Stars hit double figures against Peterborough

ICE HOCKEY: High-scoring Oxford City Stars continued their fine form in front of goal with a 10-4 victory over the Peterborough Islanders.

A week after trouncing Milton Keynes Thunder by nine goals to one, it didn’t look like it was going to be a walkover for the Stars at Oxford Ice Rink after Peterborough took a two-goal lead inside 15 minutes on Sunday through Steve Maile and Kieran D’eath.

But first Dean Elliott and then Andrew Shurmer and a high score from Paul Gore meant Oxford...
