Touring car star Jason Plato failed to keep his championship crown in the final round of the season after a puncture in race one.
Oxford’s Plato lined up in sixth place, but struggled to match the pace of the turbo-charged cars on the short Silverstone circuit in qualifying.
A blistering start off the line saw him move past his teammate into turn one, but running wide on the exit allowed Tom Chilton to slide past.
Following an early safety car period, Plato found himself in sixth early in the race.
Disaster struck on lap 11 when his car suffered a front left puncture, forcing him to the pits and out of the points.
In race two, Plato hoped for a better showing, with the 2011 title still mathematically possible.
Battling through the field from 25th he finished in seventh.
However, with the Honda Racing duo of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden finishing on the podium, his championships hopes were ebbing away.
In the final race of the season, Plato lined up third on the grid, with his teammate Andy Macdowall on pole and Tom Chilton in second.
At the start, both Chilton and Plato made the jump on Macdowall to lead.
After a race-long battle with Chilton, he had to settle for second. An eighth-place finish for rival Neal ensured he clinched the 2011 championship title, while Plato ended the season in third.
