Lee Steele signs on with Dabbers after tweet furore

Lee-Steele-PicSacked Oxford City striker Lee Steele has signed on for Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Nantwich Town.

The 38-year-old was released by City last week after making homophobic comments about former Wales international rugby player Gareth Thomas on Twitter.

In a statement, Nantwich said Steele's comments were tongue in cheek and the player wished to apologise for any offence it may have caused and "would also like to stress that he is not homophobic in any way."

The Cheshire side are currently eighth in the table, and Dabbers boss Jimmy Quinn said: “I am pleased to have been able to bring Lee into the squad.  He is an experienced proven striker that holds the ball up and can make a difference to us."
