Late equaliser denies Oxford City three points

 

Oxford City were denied a second successive league win at Bedford on Saturday, drawing 1-1.  Former City trialist Ian Draycott once again proved to be a thorn in City's side with a late goal cancelling out Lee Steele’s 64th minute strike.

Mike Ford was once again forced to shuffle his pack being without the services of several first team regulars, with striker Jon Douglas lining up along side Andy Gunn at the centre of the defence.

City crash 4-0 at Rugby

 

Oxford City suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of bottom club Rugby Town, who thrashed their visitors 4-0 to pick up their first home win of the season.

City gave debuts to Elliot Sandy and Harry Harding and started the first 15 minutes the strongest, with Mark Bell stinging Rugby ‘keeper Andrew Stevens’ hands with a thundering drive.  Stevens also repelled Andy Gunn’s header from the resulting corner.

United advance in county cup at City's expense

Goals from Jamie Cook and Ashley Cain saw Oxford United through to the final of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup as the U’s beat local rivals Oxford City 2-1.

The home side started the better at Court Place Farm, with Billy Turley racing off his line to foil former United midfielder James Clarke in the sixth minute, while fellow ex-United star Lee Steele saw a glancing header and snap shot edge narrowly wide.

Oxford United v Oxford City: Senior Cup Preview

Oxford United take on Oxford City in the semi-final of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup tonight at Court Place Farm.

Adam Murray (pictured) is expected to feature for United after more than a month on the sidelines with a back injury as Chris Wilder fields a side mixing youth with experience.

Oxford City grateful for rain as injuries pile up

Oxford City boss Mike Ford can be forgiven for offering a silent prayer of thanks when his side’s home fixture against Nuneaton was called off with an injury-decimated squad.

A pitch inspection at Court Place Farm saw the surface deemed unplayable after torrential rain and speaking ahead of the game, boss Ford said: “The treatment room on Tuesday evening was more like the local A and E on a Saturday night, broken jaws, bad backs, sore groins and stiff shoulders.
