Oxfordshire cricket round up, August 13

Bourton Vale's winless run in Division One of the MP Sports Cherwell League extended to 15 games with a 10-wicket defeat at Buckingham Town.

Batting first, the visitors compiled a score of 163 with Sam Arthurs (38 no) supported by Josh Fielding (32) and Barnaby Morton (32).  Joshua Nix took 3-42 for the home side, who easily knocked the target with unbeaten half centuries from Ashley Pearson (87) and Andrew Fletcher (63).

Third-placed Cumnor fell to a surprise defeat at home to Bletchley Town.  James Sprittles top scored for the visitors with 58 not out as Town posted a score of 182-9.  Carl Thompson took 3-38 and Miles Hammond 3-50 for the home side but with an achievable target in sight were skittles out for just 132.  Sam Jones (53) led Cumnor's challenge but Jude Ramanadanpulle (4-64) and Mark Roberts (3-35) consigned them to defeat.

Great & Little Tew handed out a thrashing to Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts, who left north Oxfordshire empty handed.  Zia Hamid (31) was the only player to offer any resistance with the bat as Tew's Liam Manley (4-19) and Andy Harris (3-21) restricted the visitors to just 96.  Ashley Hubbert (44) and Harry Smith (39) knocked off the runs with ease to secure victory.

Oxford Downs returned to the top of the table with a six wicket victory at Leighton Buzzard.  The home side made 202-9 in their innings, with the major contributions coming from Dave Roberts (45 no), Lee Selfe (38) and Alfie Ruston (33).  But Tim Sutton (94 no) and Andrew Buckingham (71) both made half centuries for the visitors who reached their target for the loss of four wickets.

Second-placed Shipton-under-Wychwood slipped to defeat at Oxford 2nds, who bowled them all out for 142, 22 runs short of their target.  Brad Sutherland took 7-61 as Shipton were skittled out.  Earlier, Oxford's Peter Fuller had led the side to a defendable total with a patient 48, despite Shaun Miller taking 4-57 and Ryan Newhook 6-36.

In Division Two, Abingdon Vale were bowled out for 76 by visitors Sandford St Martin with Siphe Mzayldume returning excellent figures of 8-39.  The visitors had only posted a total of 100 themselves, with Chas Taylor's 45 providing the bulk of the runs.

Elsewhere, Witney Mills look to be safe from relegation in Division Three after winning at Dinton 2nds.  Will Sterio made 96 and Ross Morgan 45as Witney racked up 184-6, and then bowled Dinton out for 163 despite a half century for Nick Spicer (51) with Ben Madden taking 4-51.

In OCA Division One, Minster Lovell were too strong for visitors Great Horwood, winning by four wickets.  Jack Simpson (4-23) and Eddie Dunn (3-24) helped dismiss Horwood for 122, with the visitors making 124-6 in their innings.

Hosts Faringdon beat Marsh Gibbon by 11 runs in their Division Two match, where Ian Mcdowall (57) and Mike Hume (64) helping Faringdon to 176-6.  The pair teamed up to restrict the visitors with Mcdowall taking 3-20 and Hume 4-51 as Marsh Gibbon finished on 165-9 despite 82 from Wayne Platts.

Freeland's Grant Madden hit an unbeaten 80 and Les Hole finished on 48 no as the home side made 147-1 and despatched Witney Swifts to win by nine wickets.  Only Jason Seacole (71 no) offered anything with the bat for the visitors, who posted a score of 144-6 in their overs.
