Basham back to thwart U's with double strike

Former Oxford United player Steve Basham turned villain as he scored two goals to condemn his old side to their second home defeat in the league this season as Hayes & Yeading ran out 2-1 victors.

The defeat could not have come at a worse time for the U’s, who are now two points behind table-topping Stevenage with a game in hand following the Boro’s 4-0 demolition of Barrow last night.

In the second half the Hawks lifted their game, with a good defensive performance from Claire Collis and Flick Hughes as the team looked to attack.  A penalty...

Hawks held by local rivals Henley

HOCKEY: Oxford Hawks drew 2-2 with local rivals Henley in a result that did no favours for either team’s hopes of breaking away from the relegation battle.

The Hawks started fairly well, with Tom Coppin in the middle of the pitch dominating and Nick Lamb pushing on from defence.

However, a slight lapse in defence with players watching the ball saw Henley grab the first goal of the game, sweeping in at the far post. The Hawks soon levelled, Sam Chilvers on hand to coolly lift the ball...
