Charlbury train station to get more parking spaces

Charlbury train station is to benefit from a cash injection of nearly £1 million for extra car parking spaces.

While the precise number of spaces is not yet known, the number could be anything up to 200.  The funding, provided by Network Rail and the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), is part of a £100 million scheme for station improvements nationwide.

Extra parking spaces at Charlbury was one of the first projects to be given money from the scheme.  Patrick Hallgate, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “These car park expansion schemes will make a big difference for the community and businesses who rely on the railway for thousands of journeys every day.”

Alec McTavish, director of policy and operations at ATOC, said: “The projects announced today will improve facilities for customers and achieve a financial return to taxpayers. This is good news all round.”

Charlbury already has 158 spaces, but extra car parking zones will depend on the space available at the station.  Detailed design work is currently being carried out before development begins on the site.
