'Dr Travel' Steve Fabes hits the Balkans on solo world bike ride

An Oxford doctor who embarked on a solo cycling odyssey that will see him bike across six continents over five years is celebrating after completing his first month in the saddle.

Intrepid cyclist Dr Steve Fabes, 28, hopes to raise more than £50,000 for frontline medical charity Merlin – a pound for every mile cycled – set off on his journey on January 5.

A34 Botley Interchange to get makeover

The A34 Botley interchange is to get a facelift with the installation of new traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing.

The lights are designed to help reduce congestion and delays for drivers using the A34 and local roads.  The pedestrian crossing will link the existing foot and cycle paths, providing a safe place for people crossing over the A420 junction. 

The work will take place between 10pm to 6am from Monday, March 8, lasting for seven weeks.

Varsity Express to launch Newcastle service from London Oxford Airport

Varsity Express is to launch a new week-daily route from London Oxford Airport to Newcastle.

The new regional operator is also offering a second week-daily service to Edinburgh from April 5.

Flights will initially run every afternoon from Monday to Friday, with introductory fares from £49 one way, including taxes and charges.  The firm said bookings for the Edinburgh route, which launches next month, have exceeded expectations.

Council appeals for help in dealing with dramatic pothole increase

Oxfordshire County Council has appealed to the public for help as it bids to repair more than 5,000 potholes a month after a dramatic increase following week’s of snow.

The council has been forced to spend an extra £1m to top up its regular maintenance budget to deal with the added holes, which cost around £75 each to repair.

Edinburgh added to list of destinations at Oxford Airport

Varsity Express is to launch new scheduled flights from London Oxford Airport to Edinburgh on March 1.  Flights will run from Monday to Friday with tickets available from £49.
