An Oxford tenant has been evicted following a drugs bust at her home.
Jade Reeves, who lived in flats in Banbury Road, was kicked out for continued drug abuse as well as causing anti-social behaviour. Oxford City Council said its Crime and Nuisance Action Team (CANAcT) had been working closely with Thames Valley Police to tackle the issues at the property since May 2010.
A significant amount of drugs were found by officers when a drugs warrant was executed at the property in August. An elderly neighbour gave evidence at Oxford County Court on January 4, which secured the eviction for the same day.
Councillor Bob Timbs, Oxford City Council board member for safer communities, said: “It is not acceptable for people to suffer from harassment, alarm or distress by the behaviour of others. As a council, we are committed to investigating all reports of anti social behaviour. The success of the partnership has seen this tenant evicted which will provide respite to the community.”
Alison Cassidy, case manager at CANAcT, said: “We were able to secure an eviction due to the ongoing evidence from residents, especially the brave statements from an elderly neighbour who, to her credit, remained strong enough to attend court.”
The eviction notice was served on January 4 after an appeal by the tenant in December. PC Becky Brown, from the North Oxford Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “This case was particularly successful due to the ongoing reports from various neighbours and the joint partnership working between Oxford City Council and Thames Valley Police.”
