Oxford man handed ASBO after knife conviction

Law-gavelA 22-year-old man from Oxford has been issued with an ASBO after being convicted for possessing an offensive weapon last year.

Kyan McFarlane, of Emperor Gardens, Blackbird Leys, was issued with a two-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order at Oxford Crown Court on Monday, January 23.  The ASBO application was made by Thames Valley Police and Oxford City Council after McFarlane was convicted of possession of a knife and knuckle dusters, for which he is currently serving a sentence of 10 months.

The ASBO will begin on May 19, the day McFarlane is released from prison.  The ASBO prohibits McFarlane from carrying a knife or bladed article, including a folding pocket knife with a blade less than three inches in length, in any public place in Oxfordshire.

He is also barred from entering the Kassam Stadium or associated car parks and from spitting at anyone in Oxfordshire.  PC Mike Ellis, Oxfordshire anti-social behaviour officer, said: “This order continues our drive to deal robustly with anti-social and violent criminal behaviour.

“Thames Valley Police, in partnership with Oxford City Council, are committed to supporting communities through dealing effectively with these types of offenders."
