Man fined for fly tipping in Shenington field

A man is almost £600 out of pocket after pleading guilty to dumping a large amount of rubbish in a field near Shenington, in north Oxfordshire.

On Friday, November 11, Thomas Paris was fined £200 and ordered to pay £150 court costs, and £227 to clean up the site at Banbury' Magistrates Court.  The court heard that on August 14,  Paris had visited the waste and recycling facility at Alkerton to dispose of items including a chest of drawers, cardboard boxes, carpet and children’s clothing.

When he found the site closed the 28-year-old of Parklands, Banbury, decided he would dump it all in a field off the A422 Stratford Road.  The landowner reported the fly tipping to Cherwell District Council and investigating officers found evidence linking the incident with Paris.

Councillor George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said: “Before anyone decides to dump rubbish on someone else’s land, I’d like them to consider how they’d feel if it was done to them.  Thankfully we are often able to track down offenders but on those occasions when we cannot, taxpayers foot the clean-up bill.  I hope that if anyone spots an incident like this happening they will take the trouble to write down the vehicle license plate and report it to us.”
