Paedophile convicted of sex assaults on child

Terence-Phillips-PicA man has been sentenced to eight years behind bars after being found guilty of sex offences against children.

Terence Phillips, of London Road, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales, formerly of Wantage, was arrested in June 2009, and charged in December.  The 50-year-old was found guilty of four counts of sexual offences against a child on July 29.

Phillips was given a five-year sentence for attempted rape of a child aged under 13, and three years for causing a child to engage in sexual activity, with both charges to run consecutively.  Phillips was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, August 27.  The offences took place over a three-year period and started when the victim was 11 years old.  The court heard that Phillips offered the child money for sexual favours.

He was also given two, two-year sentences for sexually assaulting a child aged under 13, to run concurrently with the other sentences.

Det Con Alex Gill said: “This is an excellent result, which reflects the seriousness of the offence that Phillips has been convicted of.  I would like to pay tribute to his victim, who has shown tremendous courage throughout this whole process.  This case also shows that no matter how long ago the offences occurred, Thames Valley Police will always seek to bring offenders of this nature to justice.”
