Radio Horton gets live broadcast boost

After more than 40 years on the air entertaining patients, staff and visitors at Banbury’s Horton General Hospital, Radio Horton is going live across Oxfordshire thanks to donations from a local store.

The station, which has been broadcasting since the 1960s, is on air 24 hours a day, seven days a week, thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers who keep the service running.

In the past the station has always had to record outdoor events and interviews because it didn’t have the equipment to broadcast them live, meaning patients missed out on sharing live experience.

But the Carphone Warehouse in Banbury has donated a mobile Wi-fi device to the station, along with a laptop and free technical advice to allow Radio Horton to access enough bandwidth to broadcast concerts and church services back to the studio where it can go out on the air immediately.

Graham Rousell, of Radio Horton, said: "This is great as live outdoor broadcasts are something that we have been planning for a long time. The Carphone Warehouse was great at explaining the technology and helping us to set this up and I'd like to thank them for donating the Wi-fi device and our new laptop.

“We hope that our listeners will really benefit from our new ability to broadcast live experiences."
