Headington private surgery gets new owner

The UK"s largest healthcare charity has agreed to acquire the BMI Oxford Clinic in Windmill Road, Headington.

Nuffield Health, a not-for-profit organisation that runs 200 private hospital and fitness facilities, will relocate the specialist centre for orthopaedic surgery to The Manor Hospital, one of its sites in nearby Beech Road.  The Manor Hospital will take over all the current patient lists, following the transfer of all staff from current owner BMI Healthcare, the UK's largest private hospital group.

Theresa Starling, director of The Manor Hospital, said: “I would like to reassure all patients that they will continue to receive the very best treatment and care.  We look forward to extending a very warm welcome to our new colleagues and continuing to provide first class healthcare services for the people of Oxford and the surrounding areas.”

Duncan Whitwell, consultant orthopaedic surgeon, said: “We believe that this relocation will be a fantastic opportunity to facilitate growth and to further develop the excellent clinical services carried out at The Oxford Clinic.”

Nuffield Health began providing private healthcare in Oxford in 1962 when it acquired the Acland Hospital, on Banbury Road.  The Manor Hospital replaced the Acland in 2004. The Hospital treats more than 8,000 patients a year, and facilities include six major theatres, a seven-bedded intensive care unit, and both MRI and CT scanning on-site.
