Oxford to host Down's Syndrome training days

DSO-Course-PicAround 120 parents and teaching professionals who support and educate children with Down’s Syndrome are heading to Oxford for two free training days next month.

The event on October 6 and 7 is being hosted by Down’s Syndrome Oxford (DSO) at the Oxford Centre on the Banbury Road, and is being funded by grants from the Big Lottery Fund and the Oxfordshire Community Foundation Fund.  Professor Sue Buckley OBE, from Down Syndrome Education International, is leading the training.

She said: “I hope that delegates will leave the conference feeling better equipped to return to the classroom with new ideas and with a vision of what children and young people with Down’s Syndrome can achieve, and the confidence that they can help them reach their potential.  I also want everyone to think beyond school and to see all we do should be with the aim of fully including these children and young people in all aspects of our communities.”

Katharine Horrocks, chairperson of DSO, said: “We are grateful to Sue Buckley for coming to Oxford, and to the Big Lottery Fund and Oxfordshire Community Foundation Fund for supporting us.”
