Play time is sure to be high on the agenda for a primary school in Abingdon, after itwon new play equipment in a prize draw.
Long Furlong Primary School won the Oxfam Big Zoom free prize draw, and pupils and staff were presented with new Poddely play equipment, provided by Playforce on September 8.
Headteacher Mr Zaheer Ahmed said: “The teachers, parents and children all had a fantastic time at our Big Zoom event and we were delighted to have raised almost £300 for Oxfam. Winning this fantastic prize is the icing on the cake. We already have some fantastic playground equipment from Playforce and we’re delighted to be able to add the new Poddely set to it.”
To win the equipment, the children took part in Oxfam’s Big Zoom event, which took place in June. Children chose any vehicle with wheels such as scooters, skates or bikes and whizzed around their school grounds in order to raise money for Oxfam.
Sandra Wilkinson, product manager for Oxfam, said: “Long Furlong School nursery ran a really fun and successful Big Zoom and cake sale to raise money for Oxfam. The teachers talked to the children about people in poverty around the world and how they were helping make a difference. I am delighted that they are the lucky winners of the Poddely prize.”
Dr Colin MacAdam, managing director of Playforce, said: “The Big Zoom was a fantastic opportunity for children to have fun and raise money for such a wonderful cause. We’re delighted to have been able to support Oxfam for their Big Zoom campaign and offer Poddely as a prize. We hope the children at Long Furlong Primary School enjoy their new equipment.”
Poddely was launched earlier this year and comprises portable, brightly coloured sets, which can be manipulated to construct shapes and models. The models can then be used in an educational setting for example to teach children logic and problem solving skills.
