Army bomb disposal specialist killed by blast in Helmand province

A soldier from the 11 EOD Disposal Regiment based at Didcot has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.

The Royal Logistics Corps soldier – part of the Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Task Force – was killed by an explosion in the Musa Qaleh area of northern Helmand province on January 11.

His next of kin have been informed and details of his identity are expected to be released by the army in the coming days.

Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "His resolution and his gallantry in the fight to protect the lives of others from improvised explosive devices in Helmand will not be forgotten."
