Oxfordshire schools to share in Government cash bonanza

Four Oxfordshire schools are set to benefit from a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to transform facilities and share in a £62m pot of Government money.

Banbury School, Larkmead School, in Abingdon, Cheney School and Iffley Mead School, both in Oxford, will benefit from the cash bonanza, the Government's largest public works programme.

Wantage Primary School youngsters celebrate 'outstanding' Ofsted report

Staff and pupils at Wantage Primary School are celebrating after their latest Ofsted report called youngster’s achievements ‘outstanding’.

The Newbury Street school was called “happy and successful” in the report by Government inspectors, who visited the school last month, and graded the school as “good” overall with some “outstanding” features.

Didcot pupils happier and healthier thanks to new scheme

Pupils at a Didcot school are happier and better-behaved thanks to a Government grant that helps youngsters from less well off families take part in extra activities, say chuffed teachers.

Stephen Freeman Primary School is part of a pilot scheme operated by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) that will be rolled out across the South East from April.

Oxford High School youngster wins World Book Day competition

An Oxford High School pupil ihas fought competition from 3,000 other young writers across England to have her story in printed as part of World Book Day on Thursday, March 4.

Pandora Dewan, 13, won the Evans Schools Short Story Competition and will have her work published with 28 other talented young writers in an anthology called The escape of Hanna Schmidt.

Hundreds drawn to see stars of woodworking at O&CVC

 

The Rycotewood Furniture Centre at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College (O&CVC) drew hundreds of furniture making and carpentry enthusiasts to Oxford this month.

A collaboration between Axminster Tool Centre and the college and a rare treat for students and the wider woodworking community, a number of craftsmen from the USA flew to the UK especially to join fellow Brits, among them Robert Ingham, David Charlesworth, John Lloyd and Colwin Way.
