Barton man jailed for drug dealing

Iain-MacDonald-PicA drug dealer has been sentenced to 30 months behind bars after admitting possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Iain Macdonald, of Bayswater Road, in Barton, appeared at Oxford Crown Court on Friday to receive his sentence.  The 27-year-old had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

The court heard Macdonald was arrested after a warrant was executed at his flat on December 7, 2010, under the Misuse of Drugs Act.  Officers searching the flat recovered cocaine, with a street value of around £1,400, £4,000 cash and drug paraphernalia, such as weighing scales. The cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and will be subject to a Proceeds of Crime hearing at a later date.

Det Con Iain Spencer, the investigating officer in the case, said: “The sentence today shows that the courts will deal robustly with people who seek to deal in drugs and profit from people’s misery. His imprisonment removes another dealer from the streets of the Thames Valley and will give some relief to the neighbourhood where he was living.  I hope he will use his time to reflect on how his actions have affected others, not just those he sold drugs to, but his friends and family, who were in court to see him sent to prison.”
