Betfred worker forced to hand over cash to Oxford robber

crime-policemenA betting shop worker was grabbed and forced to hand over hundreds of pounds during a robbery at a bookies in Oxford on Nw Year's Eve.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 8.20am at the Betfred store in Cinnaminta Road, Headington.  A female employee was opening up the shop when she was approached by a man and a girl.

The man forced the employee into the shop and then made her hand over the cash before leaving the store.  He is described as white, about 5ft 10ins, with a stocky build and thick stubble. He was wearing a green hooded anorak with the hood up and a pink beanie hat underneath.

The girl is described as being in her mid-teens, about 5ft tall and with a small build. She was wearing a black and grey coat and had a black scarf covering her face.

Det Sgt Matt Jarman said: “Thankfully the female member of staff was not injured in the robbery, but was obviously shaken by the ordeal.  A lime green coloured saloon car was seen near to the shop shortly before the incident, and we believe that this may be connected to the robbery.

“I would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this vehicle, or anyone who can provide us with information about its whereabouts.  If anyone has any information at all in connection with this crime then I would like to hear from them and would urge them to contact me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
