Cash seized from Oxford home as part of Operation Hookworm

Offices from Thames Valley Police's Economic Crime Unit (ECU) carried out a warrant in Oxford as part of an ongoing operation to seize the assets of criminals.

As part of Operation Hookworm, ECU officers, supported by local bobbies, executed the warrant at an address in Oxford on December 12 and seized £7,000 in cash.  Operation Hookworm is an ongoing initiative designed to strip criminals of the proceeds of their crimes by seizing cash and luxury goods.

The execution of the warrant was followed by a high visibility operation in the local area, to reassure and inform the local community of the actions that had been taken.  The ECU has successfully gained a detention order to keep the cash seized from the property for three months to carry out further investigations.

A/Det Insp Gavin Tyrrell said: “The warrant is part of an ongoing commitment by the team to stop criminals living off the proceeds of crime and Monday was a great example of working to make our communities a safer and more confident place to live.  I hope this sends a clear message to our communities that together we can ensure that crime won’t pay in the Thames Valley.”
