Oxford leisure centre highly rated by inspectors

Ferry Leisure Centre in Oxford has been rated as good by industry standards body Quest.

The centre is the second in the city after Blackbird Leys to achieve a good rating in its last assessment, putting it in the top top 50 per cent of centres in the country.  The Quest system is designed to help leisure centre management teams improve and maintain their facilities, encourage best practice and assessment takes place every two years.

This involves mystery visitors trying out what is on offer at the centre, and a two-day investigation into how each centre is managed.  Councillor Van Coulter, Oxford City Council board member for leisure services, said: “This is fantastic news that another leisure centre has achieved the good rating from Quest.  I am pleased that the centre and the team have been recognised for its hard work. This is a great achievement and testament to the hard work of the team.”

Assessors were impressed by the centre's recent refurbishment, well designed publicity material, community atmosphere and modern buildings.  David Evans, Ferry Leisure Centre general manager, said: “The award is a reflection of all the hard work that the team here at Ferry has put in to making it a great local leisure facility.  The inspection is extremely tough and looks into all aspects of operating a leisure centre.”
