Thousands send in electoral forms in north Oxfordshire

Nearly 18,000 people have responded to an electoral registration canvas in north Oxfordshire.

Cherwell District Council is offering phone, internet and text message options for those who registered last year and whose details have not changed.  And of the 17,700 responses received so far, the council said more than half had been by these three methods.   Of these 4,457 chose the freephone option, 4,380 logged onto the internet and 1,059 sent a text.  A total of 7,874 responses were returned by post but more than 70 per cent of these had no changes.

Cherwell’s chief executive, Mary Harpley, said: "I don’t mind how people respond but our phone, internet and text options are the easiest.  "I know the temptation is to set it aside and do it later but with these simple methods there really is no need.  "Every reply we receive is one less reminder we have to send out which saves us time and the taxpayer money."
