Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is recommending people take extra care with Chinese lanterns this summer. The lanterns, believed to bring good luck and prosperity, are being discouraged due to dry weather conditions and the presence of standing crops.
Stuart Garner, Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We urge the public to refrain from using lanterns until the dry ground conditions have improved and the risk of fire-spread decreases.”
The advice follows a recent fire in a barley field near Woodstock caused by a stray lantern used at a birthday party. For more information, visit www.365alive.co.uk or call 08000 325999.
