Repatriation-PicThe British Legion and members of the public lined the streets in Headington to pay tribute to the funeral cortege of Lance Corporal Jordan Bancroft.

The soldier from Burnley was repatriated to the UK after he was killed during a gun battle that erupted during a meeting between local elders in Sayedebad, central Helmand, Afghanistan, and troops on August 21.  People lined Headley Way as his body was taken by hearse to the John Radcliffe Hospital on Friday, August 27.

L/Cpl Bancroft 25, was part of 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.  He was on his first tour of Afghanistan after two tours of Iraq.  His death brought the total number of British military personnel killed on operations in Afghanistan since 2001 to 332.
