Oxford pub toilets send judges round the u-bend

Two Wetherspoon pubs in Oxford have sent judges round the u-bend for the quality and standards of their toilets in the Loo of the Year Awards 2011.

The Four Candles, in George Street, and The Swan & Castle, in Castle Street, have both been awarded a four star rating by inspectors.  The annual awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of away-from-home toilet provision across the UK.  All of the inspected toilets are graded from one star to the maximum five star rating.

Authorised inspectors make unannounced visits to more than 1,500 toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them.  The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessible facilities, hygiene equipment and overall management and customer care.

Siobhan Finnegan, pub manager at The Four Candles, said: “I am delighted with the award. Staff at the pub work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”

The Loo of the Year Awards 2011 managing director, Mike Bone, said: “The toilets at both pubs are extremely good and they deserve their four star rating.”
